Birdee: This has been sampled many times and with good reason, it's an incredible song and gives me a sense of joy whenever I hear it. Leroy Burgess is an absolute genius!
Woods Empire - Universal Love
Birdee: I only recently found out that this band was from Diamond Bar, a very small town in California - very close to where my girlfriend was born and raised. To think I may have driven close to one of their homes while listening to this song in my car...makes you think how much amazing music comes from small, unknown places and was made by talented people who never "made it" in the traditional sense of the term. Beautiful production, incredible harmonies, perfect.
The Clash - The Magnificent Seven
Birdee: This is one of the first songs that made me understand the importance of a killer bassline. Paul Simonon's line is the same throughout the track and never changes, but holds the whole thing up. A true exercise in groove.
Roy Ayers Ubiquity - Can You Be Yourself
Birdee: This track sums up everything that is special about Roy Ayers to me. Proper legend.
Giorgio Moroder - I Wanna Funk With You Tonight
Birdee: Had to close with an Italian song. I was lucky to meet the man Giorgio a few times and to see his live show...the amount of amazing music he made is just incredible. This is one of his best in my opinion.
