As we look to re discover dancing and late night adventures, Shaka Loves You return with two Disco Heaters. We caught up with Jamie and Marty to find out the 5 tracks which mean the most to them...
Laurent Garnier - The Man With The Red Face
Jamie: When I was first getting into Doing...I went to a DJ class and the guy running the class put this track on. I remember thinking I had never heard anything like this in my life before. That was probably the moment I got hooked on electronic/dance music and I still love the track today.
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Heard It Through The Grapevine
Marty: The first time I heard this I remember being hooked on the beat of it. This was different to all the funk and Disco I had grown up listening to. The fact it is an 11 minute long driving track, every time I listen to it again, there are always parts of it I feel like I'm listening to for the first time.
Paul Simon - Diamonds On The Soles of Her Shoes
Jamie: I could pretty much choose any track from the Graceland album, it's such a seminal piece. When I was growing up my mum and aunty would put Paul Simon records on. I was kinda drawn to it. I just love the African rhythms and instrumentation that goes into it and that has stuck with me today. It's also apparent in some of the music we write as well.
Labi Siffre - I Got The
Marty: I remember my mum introducing me to this. This was kind of the music I grew up with and I don't think I ever fully appreciated it until I heard Eminem sample it. That took me back to listening to this again and exploring loads of music off the back of that.
Jurassic 5 - Concrete Schoolyard
Jamie: This was pretty much my gateway into Hip Hop. Growing up I was into House & Disco and had only really been exposed to commercial R & B/Hip Hop. I Didn't really know about this side of things. They opened me up to whole world of other artists.
Marty: From being fans to then being able to work with them through Bombstrikes, to becoming friends has been a huge goal for us and really positive.
Jamie: To Come full circle from being a fan boy to becoming friends...
Marty: And still bing a fan boy!).
Jamie: Yep, to meet Chali and do a track with Soup (Fullee Love). If you had told 20 year old Jamie he would be doing that.....it's cool it's come full circle.
